The Position


Maintenance Repair Specialists perform a variety of skilled work in two or more of the mechanical and construction trades in order to repair, construct, and/or maintain buildings, grounds and equipment.


Incumbents possess a degree of knowledge and proficiency sufficient to perform advanced-level work and may provide work direction and training to others.


This is a position at the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, Nevada. This position acts as a supervisory position for an inmate crew for various projects. The position will perform the following trades including plumbing, carpentry, painting, electrical, automotive repairs, welding and machine work, locksmith, and operating manlifts and forklifts therefore these skills will be needed. To Qualify:


In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:



Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications)



Four years of progressively responsible experience under the supervision of journey level trades persons in two or more of the major building or mechanical trades and one year of journey level experience which included responsibility for performing a variety of repair and maintenance activities, laying out jobs and ordering materials; OR one year of journey level experience as a Maintenance Repair Specialist I in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

This position may be subject to call back.



Incumbents may be required to work extended hours, weekends, and holidays in addition to their normal work schedules.


Special Requirements



A valid driver's license is required at time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment.



A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.



Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
